Travel Journal – Day #10

Hi!

I’m still in Rome!

Today we ate delicious Italian pizza for lunch, and then walked over to the Trajan Forum, which is near the Colosseum; it was built around 100 AD!   A forum was a place for temples, meetings, statues, and sometimes markets to sell goods and food.  Kind of like a ‘square,’ or an ancient mall, today.  They were built to honor rulers.

There were actually two other forums, Julius Caesar’s and Nerva’s, that are still near this site, which have been excavated as well, but Trajan is probably the best preserved.  An ancient column stands at one end with the story of Trajan’s battles etched in stone wrapping around the column.  It’s pretty cool!

It’s kind of hard to see the drawings, but this is one of the two columns in Rome! (This one, though, isn’t the Trajan one.)

Today was amazing!  I took a lot of photos.  But I forgot to bring the mice today!  I was really disappointed about that, but it’s ok.  The mice will narrate a bit in the background of the video, so it’s not just photos.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks for bringing history alive. I just finished reading 2 books about Cicero (written from his slave’s perspective). The photos are terrific. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
